Tidal Zone Painter

The Tidal Zone Painter is an editor tool used to paint zone masks directly into the world. These masks modify how the water behaves locally without requiring additional simulations.

What Zones Are Used For
  • Calming water near shorelines
  • Reducing wave height in harbors or lakes
  • Creating smooth transitions between water regions
  • Performance-friendly local control

Where to Find It

  • Tool: TidalZonePainter
  • Access: It is created as a child when toggle the edit checkbox on a TidalZone

Painting Workflow

  1. Select a TidalBody in the scene
  2. Select the Tidal Zone you wish to edit
  3. Select a zone type (Damping, Weight, etc.)
  4. Create texture if there isn't for ZoneTexture (Use button)
  5. Toggle edit checkbox on
  6. A white panel should appear called [EDITING] TidalZoneDisplay, it may be small. Scale the Tidal Zone to whatever size you need it to be
  7. Use Tidal Painter know to adjust paint vaules, and left click and drag on panel to paint to it
  8. Ensure to press SAVE in Tidal Zone Painter when done

Painted data is stored as a texture and sampled on the GPU during simulation, making zones extremely fast compared to separate simulations.

Tip: Zones are the preferred way to create calm or controlled regions. Avoid creating multiple TidalCompute instances unless absolutely necessary.
