Zone Painter
Paint a zone's height and damping maps directly in the scene view.
The Zone Painter is a scene-view tool for authoring a zone's maps by hand. Instead of relying only on generated maps, you paint zone height and damping values straight onto the zone in the scene, giving you direct artistic control over where the water is calmed or reshaped. The in-scene painter was improved in v2.0.
- Zone damping - where waves are calmed
- Zone height - where the surface is raised or lowered
Opening the painter
The painter is attached to a zone for editing - toggle the edit option on the zone you want to paint. Select the Tidal Zone in the scene, make sure it has a zone texture to paint into, then enable painting and brush directly onto the zone's footprint. Save when you are finished so the painted map is written back to the zone.
Painted data is stored as a texture that bakes into the body's zone maps and is sampled on the
GPU during simulation, which keeps zones far cheaper than running a second
TidalCompute.
